Brown Recluse Solitaire is Thomas Warfield's spin on Spider, played with a stock and a waste pile. Each of the ten tableau columns starts with just one card, and only a King, or a same-suit run led by one, can drop into an empty column, so think twice before you clear one out. It's medium difficulty, with about a 40% chance of winning, played with two decks, and skill matters more than luck here.

How to play Brown Recluse Solitaire

Layout:

10 tableau piles: Build down regardless of suit, wrapping from Ace to King as needed. A same-suit run of cards can be moved as a group. Only a King, or a same-suit run led by a King, can fill an empty pile. Each pile starts with one card.

Stock: Click to turn over 1 card at a time to the waste. There are no redeals.

Waste: Top card is available for tableau play.

Tableau:

Ten tableau piles of one card each, all dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower than the pile's current top card, regardless of suit, so the only card that fits on a ten is a nine of any suit. Kings can also go on aces, since the sequence wraps around.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto any other tableau pile.

Empty tableau spots can only be filled by a King, or by a same-suit run of cards led by a King.

Same-suit runs of cards in order from high to low can be moved together from one tableau column to another.

Stock and waste:

There is one waste pile, and the remaining cards make up the stock.

Clicking the stock deals one card at a time to the waste. You get only one pass through the stock.

The top waste card is now available for tableau play.
