Buffalo Bill Solitaire is David Parlett's simple modification of Little Billie Solitaire: there are more fans and the reserve cells start empty, though there are still no redeals. Play this enough times and you should expect to win about 98% of your deals: it's simple, played with two decks, and your results ride mainly on the choices you make rather than the shuffle.

How to play Buffalo Bill Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build four piles up in suit from Ace to King, and four piles down in suit from King to Ace.

26 Fans: The top card of each fan can be played to the foundations or the reserves. Fans are never built on. Each pile starts with four cards.

8 reserve piles: Each holds one card at a time. Reserve cards can be played to the foundations.

Foundation:

There are two kinds of foundation piles.

The Aces Foundation

The Aces Foundation has four piles, and any Ace can start one of them, as long as each pile begins with a different suit. A card can be added to an Aces Foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 6 of spades is a 7 of spades. No pile holds more than 13 cards.

The Kings Foundation

The Kings Foundation also has four piles, and any King can start one, again with each pile beginning on a different suit. A card can be added to a Kings Foundation pile only if it's one rank lower and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 3 of hearts is a 2 of hearts. No pile holds more than 13 cards.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Fan:

Twenty-six four-card fan piles, dealt face up.

Nothing is ever built on the fan.

Cards on the fan that are not covered by another card can be played to the foundation or an empty reserve cell.

Only one card may be moved at a time; there are no sequences and no supermoves. Empty spots in the fan are never refilled.

Reserve:

There are eight reserve cells, and all of them start empty.

Each reserve holds a single card. Any exposed card can be tucked into an open reserve, and reserve cards can be played to the foundation.
