Carpet Solitaire lays out twenty single-card reserve piles across the board and asks nothing more of you than to work through them — there's no building on the tableau at all, just sending cards straight up to the foundations.

It's a simple game, with a 92% chance of winning. You're playing a single deck, and luck does most of the work here.

The game plays a lot like Twenty Solitaire and Colorado Solitaire.

The classic Spider Solitaire is built around that same kind of card-by-card progress, if you want more of that feeling.

How to play Carpet Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Built up in suit from Ace to King.

20 reserve piles: One card each. The top card of every pile is available for the foundations. Empty spaces are refilled from the waste. Each pile is dealt one card at the start of the game.

Stock: Click to deal one card to the waste at a time. There are no redeals.

Waste: The top card can be played to the foundations or the reserve.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Any ace can start an empty foundation pile.

A card can be added to a foundation pile if it's one rank higher than the pile's current top card and shares its suit — so the only card that can follow a 7 of diamonds is an 8 of diamonds.

The top card of any foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Reserve:

Twenty reserve piles, one card each, all dealt face-up.

You can't place a card onto the reserve.

Reserve cards can be played to the foundation.

Any waste card can fill an empty reserve space. Cards can't move between reserve piles.

Only one card can move at a time — there are no sequences here.

Stock and waste:

There's one waste pile, and the rest of the deck makes up the stock.

Click the stock to deal one card to the waste. You only get one pass through the stock.

The top card of the waste can be played to an empty reserve space or a foundation.
