How to play Forty Thieves (3 deck) Solitaire

Foundation:

There are twelve foundation piles.

Any ace can start a foundation pile — the piles aren't tied to a particular suit.

A card joins a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher than the pile's current top card and matches its suit. So the only card that can land on a 5 of spades is a 6 of spades. Each pile tops out at 13 cards.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Twelve tableau piles hold four cards each, all dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower than the pile's current top card and shares its suit. So the only card that can land on a 10 of spades is a 9 of spades.

Any tableau card left uncovered is free to move to a foundation or another tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.

Stock and waste:

There's one waste pile; the rest of the deck makes up the stock.

Click the stock and one card moves to the waste. You get just one pass through the deck, so there are no redeals.

The top card of the waste can be played to the tableau or a foundation.
