Two decks, eight foundations seeded with an Ace each, and a stock that refills all eight tableau piles at once. Four reserves and four cells help you land a friendly 90% of deals. Saxony Game Layout

Saxony Solitaire is a gentle two-deck patience that hands you an unusually generous head start. All eight foundations are seeded before play begins — one Ace to each — so the long climb from Ace to King in suit is already under way. With two full decks in play, there are 104 cards to route home across the eight suited piles.

The board gives you plenty of room to maneuver. A central row of eight tableau piles each shows a single face-up card; nothing may be built on them, so each pile just offers its top card to a foundation or to one of the holding spots at the sides. Clicking the stock deals a fresh card onto every tableau pile at once, which keeps the supply moving without any waste pile to manage. There is a single deal through the stock and no redeals, so the cards arrive in one steady stream.

Around the tableau sit two kinds of parking space. Four reserve piles build downward in a single suit, letting you tuck a short descending run aside until its cards are wanted on the foundations, while four free cells each hold one loose card of any kind. Together they give you room to untangle awkward spots, and because the odds are forgiving — roughly a 90% win rate — Saxony makes an inviting introduction to two-deck solitaire.

Congress Solitaire and Gargantua Solitaire sit in the same two-deck neighborhood as this one.

How to play Saxony Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit. At the start of the game, one Ace is dealt to each pile.

8 tableau piles: Each shows one face-up card and cannot be built on. The exposed card may be played to a foundation, a reserve, or a cell. At the start of the game one face-up card is dealt to each pile, and clicking the stock deals a new card onto every pile.

4 reserve piles: Build down in the same suit, one card at a time. Empty reserves accept any card, and only single cards move. Each pile begins with one face-up card.

4 cells: Free cells that each hold a single card of any kind. The stored card can later be played to a foundation or reserve. Each cell begins with one face-up card.

Stock: Each click deals one card to every tableau pile. There are no redeals.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles, and each one starts with an Ace.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 7 of spades is an 8 of spades. There can be no more than thirteen cards in a pile.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

There are eight tableau piles, each dealt one face-up card. No building is allowed on the tableau, and there are no empty-space rules to worry about — the stock refills the piles for you.

The top card of a tableau pile may be played onto a foundation, a reserve pile, or an empty cell.

Stock:

The cards that remain after the deal form the stock.

Each time you click the stock, one card is dealt to every tableau pile. There is only one pass through the stock, and there are no redeals.
