Peter Voke's tougher Baker's Dozen: ten piles instead of thirteen, alternating colors, and no mercy for buried Kings. Hard, single deck, just a 6% win rate. Vineyard Game Layout

Peter Voke designed this tougher take on Baker's Dozen Solitaire: ten tableau piles instead of thirteen, building down by alternating color instead of any suit, and no mercy for the Kings in the deal. It's hard, with a 6% chance of winning, played with a single deck, and skill matters more than luck.

Ten By One Solitaire adds one free cell to the same layout, and Winery Solitaire adds two.

How to play Vineyard Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

10 tableau piles: Build down by alternating color. Only one card moves at a time, and any card can fill an empty space. At the start, the first two piles get six cards each and the rest get five, all face-up.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles.

Any ace can be moved onto an empty foundation pile to start it. From there, a card can be added only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 7 of clubs is an 8 of clubs.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Ten tableau piles hold the deck, the first two with six cards each and the rest with five. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so a 10 of hearts takes only a 9 of spades or a 9 of clubs.

Any tableau card not covered by another can move to the foundation or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.
