La Belle Lucie's fan layout, minus the redeals: seventeen three-card fans dealt once, no do-overs. Medium difficulty, single deck, 50-50 odds. Linus Game Layout

Linus Solitaire takes La Belle Lucie's fan layout and strips out the safety net. It's medium difficulty, with no redeal: the 17 three-card fans (plus one lone card) get dealt once, and you build down in alternating colors with whatever you're given. You'll win about 50% of those deals. It's played with a single deck, and reading the fans well matters more than luck.

Other solitaire games comparable to this one include La Belle Lucie Solitaire, Three Shuffles and a Draw, and Fan Solitaire.

When you want redeals back, the classic Solitaire has them.

How to play Linus Solitaire

Layout:

4 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

18 fans: Seventeen fans of three cards plus one single-card fan, all dealt face-up. Alternate-color construction; only one card can be moved at a time, and empty fans stay empty.

Stock: None. There is no redeal in Linus, so whatever you're dealt is what you play.

Foundation:

There are four foundation piles, one for each suit.

An Ace starts a foundation. A card can be added only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a Q of spades is a K of spades.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Tableau:

Eighteen fans make up the tableau: seventeen of three cards each, plus one with a single card, all dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only cards that fit on the 6 of hearts are the 5 of spades and 5 of clubs.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation or any non-empty tableau pile.

The tableau's empty spaces may not be filled.

Only one card may be moved at a time; sequences are not permitted.
