FreeCell Duplex Solitaire takes standard FreeCell and doubles it: two decks, eight free cells, eight foundations, and twelve tableau piles instead of the usual one deck, four cells, and eight piles. Every card is dealt face-up and there's no stock to hide anything, so it comes down to pure planning, and it shows: better than 99% of deals can be won. You'll want a wide screen for this one, since twelve packed piles get cramped fast on a phone.

It plays just like FreeCell: build the tableau down in alternating colors, and park a single card in a free cell when you need breathing room. Cards move one at a time here, there's no dragging a whole matched run at once, so shifting a sequence across the board means working it through the free cells step by step. How to play FreeCell Duplex Solitaire

Layout:

8 foundation piles: Build up from Ace to King in the same suit.

8 cells: Card storage. Each cell holds one card.

12 tableau piles: Build down in alternating colors, one card at a time; there's no dragging a matched run as a group. Any card can fill an empty pile. At the start of the game, the leftmost 8 piles receive 9 cards face-up, while the remaining 4 piles receive 8 cards face-up.

Foundation:

There are eight foundation piles.

Any ace in the foundation may be transferred to any vacant pile.

A card can be added to a foundation pile only if it's one rank higher and the same suit as the pile's current top card, so the only card that fits on a 4 of clubs is a 5 of clubs. There can be no more than 13 cards in a pile.

The top card of each foundation can be moved back into play if another pile will accept it.

Cells:

Eight cells, all of which are originally vacant.

One card can be stored in each cell. Any available card can be played into any available cell. Cell cards can be played back to the tableau or the foundation.

Tableau:

There are twelve tableau piles of cards, with the first eight each having nine cards and the following four each having eight cards. Every card is dealt face-up.

A card can be added to a tableau pile only if it's one rank lower and the opposite color of the pile's current top card, so the only cards that fit on the 6 of hearts are the 5 of spades and 5 of clubs.

Cards on the tableau that are not covered by another card can be played onto the foundation, an empty cell, or any other tableau pile.

Any card can fill an empty slot in the tableau.
